Telstra Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct of Homebush, Sydney, Australia which was completed in March 1999.
Stadium Australia was the main stadium of the 2000 Summer Olympics. It hosted track and field events and the soccer final. The highest attendance ever recorded was 114714 during the Closing Ceremony.
In 2001, major reconfiguation work on the stadium commenced to allow for sports that require an oval field to be played on the ground. The 2 wing stands were removed as well as the athletics track. A moveable seating section was introduced in its place. New roofs were built over the 2 ends and seats that had a poor view of the field were removed. It reduced the capacity to 83500 for the rectangular field and 73000 for an oval field.
The reconfiguation was completed in time for the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup where Telstra Stadium hosted the semifinal and Final matches of the competition.
Telstra Stadium is home to 3 National Rugby League teams (Canterbury Bulldogs, West Tigers, South Sydney Rabbitohs) and the Sydney Swans of the Australia Football League.
