The grounds of Knebworth House near the village of Knebworth have become a major venue for open air rock and pop concerts since 1974 when The Allman Brothers Band attracted 60,000 at the first large concert held at the venue. Since then many of the World's biggest acts have performed there and the capacity has been increased to its present 125000. In 1996 Oasis played at the venue over two nights, they were supported by The Charlatans, Kula Shaker, Manic Street Preachers, Ocean Colour Scene and the Prodigy. The two shows had a combined audience of 250000, over 10 million fans applied for tickets making it the biggest demand for concert tickets in British history. In 2003 Robbie Williams performed over three nights at the venue with a combined audience of 375000 and a television audience of 3.5 million. The concert caused a huge traffic jam on the A1 with an estimated 130000 cars trying to reach the venue.
